How to reanimate chipboard and MDF furniture

Any surface over time becomes covered with scratches, cracks, chips. Particleboard and MDF used in furniture are no exception. As a result, the appearance deteriorates.

/

There are several ways to reanimate furniture made from chipboard and MDF. Each of them is based on the use of devices, materials:

  • Furniture marker;
  • Soft or hard furniture wax;
  • Furniture stroke.

Thanks to them, minor damage can be repaired quickly without involving skilled workers.

/

A furniture marker, in which, unlike the usual clerical one, water-resistant compounds are used that do not wear out for a long time, mask shallow scratches. First, using alcohol, its solution, degrease the surface. After drying, a marker is coated, doing this several times.

/

The method is simple, but, given the different quality of the laminating coating of chipboard, MDF, do not immediately use alcohol to degrease in a conspicuous place. It is better to pre-check whether alcohol enters into a reaction with it.

Wax restores scratches, chips, damage on surfaces experiencing significant stress. The material allows you to restore the original appearance of the coatings of the plates. In addition, it seals them, which eliminates the penetration of water inside.

A small amount of soft wax is applied to the lesion. Level: cracks, scratches with a silicone spatula; chipped - with a knife. The excess material is removed with a blade, after which the corrected place is polished with a rag from felt. Expressed wood structure, wax, if necessary, is given using a furniture or ordinary stationery felt-tip pen.

The difference between hard and soft wax is greater resistance to mechanical stress in the future. Before use, its piece is melted with a soldering iron, a gas lighter. Then the damage is filled in excess. After solidification, remove the excess with a blade, knife.

With a furniture touch, only medium-depth scratches can be masked. It allows, than differs from a furniture marker, to repair damage to a large area.

/

A furniture touch is produced in bottles, which must be shaken well before use. Then the material is applied to the damaged area in one to three layers. The amount of the latter depends on the degree of damage to the chipboard, MDF.

For the stroke to dry well, wait 5-10 minutes. Then you can remove excess material, which is done with a wet rag.
