How to repair a cracked floor screed

The problem of restoration of concrete floors is especially popular among owners of old Khrushchevs. The surface's ability to wear and crack will inevitably render it unusable. The concealment of the surface with finishing materials does not allow to identify a defect in the early stages, which often causes the formation of deeper gaps. That is why it is always important to check the condition of the screed before laying the floor, and if there is damage, the surface must be restored.

In most cases, the type of repair depends on how strong the defect is. Existing cracks are often accompanied by the presence of hidden voids and delaminations. In order to exclude this, the tap method is used. A muffled sound is a sign that the problem is much wider than it seems at first glance. If the spoiled gap reaches 30% or more, then the concrete screed is best replaced completely.

Before you start repairing cracks, you should clean the restored area. With the use of a chisel or hammer, the crack deepens by one centimeter. It should get the shape of a cone, the lower part of which tapers. Only then can the area be cleaned of dust. A sandblasting device or a vacuum cleaner is suitable as a tool.

After the surface is cleaned of dirt, it should be treated with an epoxy type primer with the addition of solvent. Consistency is approximately 1/10. This will allow the repair compound to be more firmly connected to the base. After drying, you can begin to fill the damaged area with a solution.

Repairing deeper damage will require the use of an angle grinder. With its help, it is necessary to deepen the gap by 5 cm by making grooves. Using a chisel and a hammer, it will be possible to eliminate all the cracked concrete.

At the second stage, the crack is dust-free and covered with an epoxy mixture. To improve the result, the solution is best applied in at least two layers.

For too large slots, metal brackets are often used. The recess is notched to 2 cm and is equipped with fittings. Only after that, the damaged area is treated with the mixture.

In the process of repairing a cracked screed, regardless of the level of damage, surface grinding is mandatory. It will eliminate all the irregularities of the frozen repair substance, as well as give the surface a uniform property.
