Which side to put the insulation with foil?

Foil material is a combined thin layer of insulation, one or two sides of which are provided with a reflective layer. This is necessary so that the metallized part reflects thermal energy and prevents it from leaving the room.

Everyone can deal with double-sided foil insulation. It is laid on either side. And one-sided insulation raises questions.

There are several installation options. They directly depend on the surface and the place where the thermal insulation work will be carried out.

For exterior walls

In this case, the material is laid so that its smooth side faces the street, and the ribbed side resists against the insulation. This mounting method allows you to retain heat inside the room and effectively reflect it, not letting it out.

For space under the roof

To insulate the roof, it is supposed to apply foil-coated material with the metallized side down. The rising heat from the heating devices rests on the reflective layer and goes down again.

On a plinth inside the house

In this case, they act in the same way as with the outer walls. The smooth side is placed on the bottom, and the rough side is turned upwards, resting it against the insulating layer. Thus, we "lock" the heat inside the room.

For overlapping external walls and partitions

This option differs from the design of external partitions. Experts recommend placing the smooth side to the insulating material, and with the foil to the overlap.

Foil insulation with a self-adhesive layer is attached directly over the wall, without wasting time on fastening the battens. For sheets of insulating material without a self-adhesive strip, a double frame is required. Sheets of an insulating type are inserted into it, and the joints are putty.
